This is what he had to say about that:
We're doing it at Walter's because Willow and I finally decided that doing it at the Meridian just makes it too stressful on us. There is too much overhead concerning the expenses for sound and venue rental for it to just be a fun show if it is at Meridian. In 2006 we had over 600 people pay, and so it actually worked out very well there, but we only had alittle over 400 pay in 2007, and because of that we weren't able to give bands what they truly deserved, and that left a sour taste in our mouth about doing it at Meridian. We have to worry so much about the money end of things there and it can potentially take away from the bands' and promoters' pockets. However, Walter's holds less than a third of the crowd that Meridian can hold, so we've had to cut the amount of bands playing down to accomodate that. I think a slightly smaller show in a tighter sized venue will yield a more memorable show anyway. I think Texas Hardcore has enough of a local following to create a pretty intense and intimate atmoshpere that Walter's has been providing for many years now. I think it is important to note that Walter's has been Houston's most steady hardcore-friendly venue for the past 5 or 6 years, even through all the adversity (financial and legal) that the club has faced in that time. The main point of this year's Fallcore is to just get back to the roots of what Texas Hardcore is about. Don't get me wrong, the last couple of years have been great, but Willow and I saw things kind of spiralling out of control in recent years. Each new year of the fest became a bigger and more expensive event to hold, so this year we're trimming the fat a little bit. Keep it simple, keep it fun.
Take Care,
Daniel
