Burning Fight Showcase Info

Last month, I posted about Trial having confirmed to perform a show next year in Chicago in commemoration of the release of Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution in Ethics, Politics, Spirit and Sound, an aptly titled book that discusses, in-depth, the movement that was 90's Hardcore Punk. The people bringing you Burning Fight will be holding a showcase with some of the best that the 90's had to offer along with some of today's best who have taken great influence from the era.

They have issued the following statement:

There will be a website coming in the next week with information on lodging, transportation, food and other general questions.
Frequently asked questions that I do not want to be asked:

No one is getting rich off this show so keep the comments of “insert band here” is only doing this for money to yourself. This is about a book my friend has written and other friends have agreed to play. This is a one-time deal so enjoy the moment because it will not happen again.

All money after expenses will be directed toward the two benefactors we have chosen.

No, Universal Order of Armageddon is not playing.

I do not have the exact day set for each band and what time they are playing. A website will have all that information the week of the show.

There will be no barrier at the club, but that does not mean you can be an idiot and wreck the place. Respect this club’s willingness to do the show whose history of bands on their stage have ranged from Bob Dylan to Slayer to Oasis to Metallica. The list is endless for punk and hardcore bands as well.

Please do not buy a ticket if you do not plan on attending the show. We have decided to release the info well in advance of the show so people can prepare to attend. I have included a 4 ticket limit per house hold as well to insure no one is wasting our time in buying 9 tickets and only two of their friends actually attend.

Please do not PM asking if your band could play or why I did not dig up some losers that put a 7 inch out in a paper bag back in 94.

Thank you
Jim and Brian

See you in May, Chicago.

Mammoth Grinder post new song, "You're Wrong"

Austin, TX powerhouse trio, Mammoth Grinder, have posted a new song, "You're Wrong," off of their upcoming 7" EP on Inkblot Records, No Results, which is due out in December. Eternal Polling

I'm going to start putting up polls every two weeks, give the readers a chance to vote for their favorite releases, bands, or whatever other random shit we decide to make polls about.

The first one up [under the navigation menu on the sidebar] is to answer the age old question: what's your favorite Integrity release?

Keep in mind, I kept it limited to more well-known releases, so if your favorite release is the In Contrast of Sin 7" or the '92 Demo, well, too bad. You can post a comment stating your vote but overall favorite if you want.

Voting ends at 11:59pm on November 9th, 2008.

Not to Touch the Earth

Boredom really got to me, so I grabbed the tripod and said, "fuck it."
I walked to Bob Bullock Loop [20]. I found a few good spots where the cars wouldn't run me over or something, and I saw a wild pig, or maybe it was coyote... couldn't really tell. I flashed my camera light towards the bushes right next to me because I heard something move, and I saw two shinny eyes, and I was like, "ohhhhhhhhh fuckkkkkk," so I got my shit and moved a few feet away. The next thing you know, there was an animal of some sort on the street, but I was too far away to see what it actually was...

These are the pictures I took. I haven't edited them yet, but I will get around to it, eventually. Maybe when I get bored again. Enjoy.

October Horror Reviews: C.H.U.D.

Beneath the streets of New York city there are hundreds of miles of subterranean tunnels unfit for anything human...until now. Something horrible is loose in the sewers of Manhattan and the city's homeless have begun to mutate into 'Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers'. They are C.H.U.D. - mutated by radiation, hungry and headed for the streets!

A city with mutated homeless that take locals into the sewers and then eat them? Count me in.

C.H.U.D. has its gore scenes, but the only thing about this movie is that you don't actually see any C.H.U.D. until the middle of the film. I think you see more mangled body parts than C.H.U.D. The times when you do see them, they look frightening.

You just gotta love low-budget horror flicks.

The movie was filmed above and below the streets of New York City, so the scenes where the actors are in the sewers, are actually real. [I could smell them already!]

Watch this movie if you have the time. Government cover-ups, mutated homeless, and a bit of gore... sounds like a good B-monster movie to me.

As some of you may already know [and should if you follow this site], FunFunFun Fest 2008 is coming up. It's all going down in Austin, TX's Waterloo Park on November 8th and 9th. October Horror Reviews: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

Jason [Kane Hodder] finds himself a stowaway on a cruise ship full of high school seniors bound for New York City. He slaughters his way around the ship, and when it ends up docking, he hunts down the final few survivors around New York.

The movie's setting is based on the boat ride until the last 10, maybe 15, minutes of the movie when Jason finally sets foot on Manhattan Island.

Before the cruise ship, he kills a couple having sex on an boat; during the ride to Manhattan, Jason kills about 11 people throughout the cruise ship, and then he kills 8 more people in Manhattan. Thus the official Body Count for this film is set at: 21.

Overall this movie kind of sucks, BUT there's still a lot of blood and gore to go around. The death scenes were filled with creativity. Jason basically utilized anything he could find in the immediate area which, if you've seen enough slasher flicks, you know makes for a good time.

There's even a guy that gets thrown head first into a vat of toxic waste. [I've never seen that before]

If you have time to kill, watch it... there's plenty of blood and gore for everyone.

I Can't Stand All the Things I See

It's like a Bl'ast of Agression to your cerebral cortex, in this alternate universe in which Southern California is located in Austin, TX and Black Flag was named after a Bad Brains song. Coptic Times is their name and playing loud, angry punk rock is their game. The Temptation EP was released earlier this year [May 27, 2008] on Youngblood Records. I've posted about this band before. Actually, the first post I ever made on here was when they put out their demo tape on Next Level Records 2 years ago. Vocalist, Matt Jackson, had sent me the demo tracks over AIM, and I had just made the blog earlier that night, so I figured it was only right to post about it. Help get the word out, you know?

Anyway, the EP features five tracks of raging hardcore punk. One of which was rerecorded from the demo [Urban Decay became Wasteland]. I'd also like to point out that the cover artwork was done by the great Andrei Bouzikov, who has inked some awesome designs within the hardcore punk community for bands such as Municipal Waste, Deadfall, Violation, and Reproach.

Feedback....it builds...piercing the ears as it builds. What's to come? A steady beat breaks as an almost Sabbath-like riff brings you in over a grooving bass line. High Strung. Things seem to pick up only to drop back into that lull of a break. Droning...then you snap back. It picks the pace back up. They even throw in a short solo for good measure. Some tight start and stop going on in the chorus. I like that one. Through These Eyes comes in and keeps up the current pace of the record. Remaining upbeat, for the most part, throughout. Wasteland. Re-recorded and renamed, Wasteland features an anthemic style chorus; aggressively chanting, "I can't stand all the things I see." This world isn't meant for people like me. Pulsing and straight forward, this song is the battlecry for the disillusioned who seek, but find not, answers in this world. Self Destruction, similar to the track prior utlizes a 3/1 chorus [repeating the first line three times followed by the last line]. It's in my head! A fun song, overall, with its use of changing pace through the chorus and solos thrown in. The EP closes out with the title track. Temptation brings us back to a familiar sound. Feedback seeps into our ears. A snippet of a guitar lick comes in and out. Then it hits: the drums, upbeat, and guitars, unrelenting, take us for the longest ride seen on this record. It closes in, and we'll end it on that note.

This is definitely one of my favorite EPs of this year, from a great Texas band. The record is still available through the band, Youngblood Records, and various punk rock distros and record stores, so you should pick it up as soon as possible. Also, if you're gonna be in the area, go catch Coptic Times at this year's This Is For You Fest along with fellow Texan ragers Lie and Wait, ANS, Highlife, Streetcleaner, and Mammoth Grinder!

Disfear & Doomriders Split 7" EP announced!

A message from Deathwish, Inc. HQ:
To celebrate their long standing friendship, Disfear and Doomriders have paired up to release a brand new limited split 7"EP, a joint effort between Disfear's own self ran label, Disfear Records (European territories) and Doomriders' label home, Deathwish (All other territories).

With Doomriders, we get a glimpse into their progression since "Black Thunder" in the soon to be classic, "Crooked Path". Easily one of their best songs to date, "Crooked Path" pounds forth with grit, melody, and emotion unlike anything else out there today.

On the other side, Disfear unleash the hook laden "Fear And Trembling". This is their first effort since their classic "Live The Storm" album was released by their current label home, Relapse Records. "Fear And Trembling" is a stellar song that expands the boundaries of the D-Beat world that Disfear dominate to this day.

A special Disfear Records' "Tour Edition" of this release will be available directly from the bands on their upcoming European tour, while the Deathwish version will be available for Pre-order VERY soon.

I am BEYOND fucking stoked for new Doomriders material, and so, I must reiterate a previous comment of mine directed at those pesky Doomriders...

TOUR THE UNITED FUCKING STATES!

...and if you didn't see it, I posted a review of Disfear's most recent full-length effort, Live the Storm. It's a rager for sure. Check that out.

October Horror Reviews: H.P. Lovecraft's From Beyond

H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale has a new twist in the hands of the creators of the Re-Animator (1985). When it comes to movies based on the stories of H.P. Lovecraft, Stuart Gordon's low-budget directing is amazing. Sadly, most of his movies are direct-to-video and never hit the mainstream, but that doesn't stop us horror fans on the Internet from finding his masterpieces.

The Resonator is a powerful machine made up of intense circuit boards and microprocessors. It's built for one purpose: to control the sixth sense. It does so by stimulating the brain's pineal gland, which allows us to see the hidden creatures all around us, and naturally, lets them see us. [the creature effects look fantastic] The first time they switch it on, it kills its creator, Dr. Edward Pretorious [Ted Sorel], and resulted in his associate, Dr. Crawford Tillinghast [Jeffrey Combs], being committed into an insane asylum. When the beautiful Dr. Katherine McMichaels [Barbara Crampton] becomes determined to continue the experiments of the late Dr. Pretorious, she opens a door to a parallel universe and finds a new level of the human psyche. Victims become creatures who need to feed on-- and get aroused by-- human brains. The Resonator is the ultimate man-made-monster and something horrible has happened... No one can switch it off.

If you have time to watch a crazy movie this October, definitely watch H.P. Lovecraft's From Beyond.

Female nudity, creatures, gore, and machines... What else could you ask for?

The Chemistry of Common Life

The debut full-length album on Matador Records from Canada's infamous, Fucked Up, is set to be released next Tuesday, October 7th, 2008, and a full stream of the new record is being offered via Rhapsody. I'm in a few tracks and it sounds good so far. Entitled The Chemistry of Common Life, it's the follow-up to 2006's Hidden World.

I'm not sure why, but the stream is currently only available to US residents. It has yet to be stated if a full stream will be available to non-US residents before the album's release.

Once Tasted Ever Wanted...

So Juanjohn, Bubba and Jr came over to chill, and I decided to make some shrimp Pad Thai being that it had been while since I'd made that particular dish. I used the usual flat rice noodles, but as I finished up and was putting all the stuff away, I found another pack of rice noodles that I had forgotten we purchased a while ago. They were the more vermicelli style noodle or, "rice sticks." As I looked at the package of noodles, I couldn't help but notice the terrible slogan along the bottom of the label. Go figure the noodles were manufactured in the Phillipines, as the slogan read, "Once Tasted Ever Wanted..."

What?

I reread the slogan a few times to make sure I wasn't just tired or seeing things, but sure enough those pesky Phillilpinos managed to butcher the English language enough to the point where it was undecipherable as to what the fuck they intended it to say. It was enough to give us a good laugh, so I figured I'd share.

Here's Bubba holding the pack of noodles:

I'll probably end up using the noodles in some soup, or I'll make some spring rolls.

If I decide to quit being lazy, I'll document the recipe for my Pad Thai and post it up sooner or later.

Juanjohn, on October

Ok, so yesterday I was at a hangout with a few good friends when someone asked me for a ride, of course I said ok not knowing what was in store. I don't know what time I took off, but by that time two other people had asked me for a ride, and I was drunk, so I said ok. On the way to drop off the first set of kids my tire goes flat. WTF! That's what I get for being nice. Fuck life and fuck driving on a donut. If any of you get a chance, check out GHOST MICE! They're a really great folk band. It's October!!! My birthday is in thirteen days, and I can't fucking wait to be twenty. Props to Jai's post regarding his October playlist. I will join in and say the Misfits fucking rule, and Danzig is a fucking badass. Well, that's pretty much it. I hope everyone has a good weekend.

CIRCLE OF PAIN

Finally, the long awaited band fronted by Bitter End riffmaster, Griffin Jarzombek, has manifested itself with a solid line-up and will be recording a demo soon. A show in early November with a certain legendary NYHC band is a possibility.

I'm happier than a pig in shit that this band is happening, and only a month after I mentioned it in my review of the new Bitter End EP. I can't wait until their is a full demo available.

New On My Side song. Release date for Grow LP.

A message from On My Side in regards to their upcoming LP entitled, Grow.
Basically, after a ton of delays, obstacles, and shit, there finally seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel for this record. The official street date for this record is January 20th 2009 (for like Hot Topics or whatever), but we should probably have records sometime in December. Keep your eyes open for a record release show...I'm sure Lie And Wait and/or Bitter End will play. Also, we'll be touring to the west this winter for probably two weeks or so.

To kind of "celebrate" the past few days of stress relief and the fact that this is ACTUALLY HAPPENING, I created a Pure Volume page with another new track that is mixed and mastered, etc. I'm going to have it up until approx. 8 PM tomorrow so get your listens in while you can.

The song is called "Reaching" and has some guest vocals from Daniel Rosen of Today We Prevail fame. Check it out and let us know what you think.

The numbers are in...

As I was checking the traffic stats for the site, I found something that was very pleasing. We almost doubled our number of visits compared to last month. 1,666 visitors to be exact, as opposed to last month's 850. Not to mention, I've noticed a good amount of traffic coming in from overseas. Just within the last 20 visitors, we have people reading from Spain, England, Finland, and Australia.

The chart below show the headcount from the past year.

Those are some pretty good numbers, if you ask me. Don't forget to bookmark the page, or if you use an RSS reader, you can subscribe to Eternal Summer and get all the updates when they're posted.

Thanks for reading. :)

You know what that means.

My day to day playlist is going to consist of the following:
